My PPC Vision:Local Search is going bigger!

According to Search Engine Land and Search Engine Journal, the local search that I adore in Yahoo has just hit Google. That means local PPC, local business listings, and better directions, which could also set up for a potential outlet for Google’s frequently beta tested Click To Call. I personally think this may be the best thing since my Prodigy email account I got back in the mid-90’s (come on, its a classic). Personally I think Local search is the only thing that Yahoo has on the other search engines. Whats your thoughts?

I agree that local search will become more pervasive. It’s undoubtedly highly useful right now…but it seems to me that it’s a behavioral issue, if we’re concerned with “speed to adoption.” Me you, and other we know are a bit savvier than most and can more easily extract highly useful information from search engines. I have to wonder what % of searchers are even aware of local search. I know more than a handful of people who never even click the PPC ads. Further, until Google begins shoving the local results in your face, their program may not catch speed.

But there are the vertical players as well. Citysearch along with AOL Cityguide have one express purpose…which is to connect you with local merchants.

Click to call has the potential to explode. It’s worth quite a bit to a professional services firm to get a live qualifed person on the phone calling them. Further, ANYONE currently satisfied with cold calling to set appointments would cling to the concept of paying for qualified leads live on the tele. The only hurdle I see Google having to surmount…getting people to enter their phone number in the prompt box. Can you trust the personalized search engine with your phone number as they ramp up their cell phone project?
